The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) saw record traffic in December 2023. As per official data, about 4.88 million passengers travelled via CSMIA in December. Traffic Surpasses Pre-Covid Levels, Shows Remarkable Recovery
Showing steady recovery and even surpassing pre-COVID numbers, CSMIA witnessed heavy traffic of about 4.88 million passengers in December 2023. These numbers show a growth of almost 13% as compared to numbers from December 2022 (4.33 million). Since it’s a holiday season, traffic is usually high at the airports in December. What’s even more remarkable is that these numbers show a 112% recovery to the pre-pandemic levels of December 2019. As per the data shared by Mumbai International Airport, the maximum traffic witnessed at the airport in December 2019 was 4.37 million passengers.
The highest passenger traffic was witnessed on 16th December with about 165,258 passengers at the airport. This included 841,66 arrivals and 81,092 departures on that day. Now, if you’re wondering where people travelled to, then as per CSMIA’s official data, Dubai, London, and Abu Dhabi were some of the popular international destinations. For domestic flights, Delhi, Bangalore, and Goa were the top destinations in December 2023.

What Led To Traffic Growth At The Mumbai International Airport?
These high traffic numbers can be attributed to steady airport expansion with newer destinations. This is also one of the best airports in the country and has exemplary services and hospitality that have added to the passenger’s trust. All this has added to the high number of passengers witnessed at the airport.
