The number of positive coronavirus cases is increasing in different parts of the world and unfortunately, India is also one of those countries where the cases are seeing a significant rise recently. The sudden rise in the number of people getting infected with the virus is making people more concerned and a bit scared. Sources from the Union Health Ministry stated that it is not compulsory to do RT-PCR tests at airports yet.
COVID-19 Cases Are On A Surge In India
Along with the latest spike in patients suffering from coronavirus and its effects, the JN.1 variant cases are on the rise as well. Recently, a 41-year-old man in Maharashtra’s Sindhudurg District tested positive for the COVID-19 JN.1 variant.
The overall number of active infections jumped from 2,311 to 2,669 on Wednesday. It was on Thursday, when 594 new cases were detected, according to the data shared by the Union Health Ministry.
Seeing the rise of infections among residents of the country, the sources stated that the mandatory rule of going through RT-PCR testing for the virus is not a necessity for passengers at airports as of now. Considering the present updates and health status of all the JN.1 variant infected patients and COVID-19 cases, 92 per cent of them are undergoing treatment at home only, according to a report by The Economic Times. Another good indication of the uptick in positive cases is that the number of people getting hospitalised for COVID-19 is not increasing.
On the other hand, 22 people in India infected by coronavirus passed away in the past 2 weeks. Recent information released at 8 AM on Friday stated that the overall death numbers increased to 5,33,327. Recently, 6 people died in Punjab, Karnataka, and Kerala. Among these 6 deceased, 1 is from Punjab, 2 are from Karnataka, and 3 are from Kerala.

No RT-PCR Testing At Airports
This is a peak holiday and festive season all around the world. From travel enthusiasts catching flights to their travel destinations to people coming back to their houses to enjoy the festive time with their families, passenger footfall is seeing a major rise at most airports. People are travelling to and from both domestic and foreign destinations. In between all the rush at airports, a source stated that there are no plans or final decisions to restart the process of RT-PCR testing at airports. It was a compulsion back in the day when COVID-19 was wreaking havoc and it was one of the strictly followed COVID-19-related protocols.
Sudhansh Pant, the Union Health Secretary, mentioned the strategies for managing the present situation. In an official letter, he urged Indian states and union territories to organise and implement health measures to control and decrease the chances of the virus spreading among people.
The Centre has advised all the states and union territories of the country to stay aware of the situation.
