Most of us are unaware of the indigenous delicacies found in Mexico. Do you know huitlacoche is a delicacy in Mexico? A woman prepared empanadas with this ingredient and shared a video online. It is now receiving lots of contrasting comments from Netizens.

Taking to Instagram, the digital creator Suzy (@sooziethefoodie) shared a video of preparing a recipe and the primary ingredient is grabbing everyone’s attention. To cook the dish, she used huitlacoche.

Huitlacoche is a fungus that grows on corn and is also known as corn smut. As shared in the caption of the video, it is considered a delicacy in Mexico. Many people even call it the Mexican truffle. If you have never tasted huitlacoche before, it actually has quite a fermented flavour. This might seem a bit weird for people who have not tried this food item before but interestingly, it is a widely famous ingredient of Mexican cuisine.

To cook empanadas, she pan-fried the huitlacoche with salted butter, shallots, and garlic. She added chihuahua cheese, onions, and cilantro and put it in a refrigerator. Then she added the filling inside the empanada dough pockets and fried them.

Shared back on June 29, 2023, the viral video of cooking empanadas with huitlacoche has garnered more than 6 million views. There are over 102K likes and thousands of comments under this video. Netizens are not that impressed with the recipe and many took to the comment section to share their thoughts and disapproval on it. A comment read, “It makes my stomach upset just looking at it”. An Instagrammer commented, “Something tells me not to eat mold though… or am I confused.” “I’m sorry idk why but this doesn’t look right to me”, wrote a user. Someone wrote, “Lady you’re trying to kill us.”
