IQAir, an air technology company based in Switzerland, recently released a report on the quality of air worldwide during 2023. India featured heavily in the World Air Quality Report 2023. It was ranked as the third most polluted country in the world. What is more, Delhi emerged as the capital city with the worst air quality in the world. Here are all of the other important details that you would need to know about this new global air quality report.
World Air Quality Report 2023: Important Insights From The Report
In addition to India being the world’s third-most polluted country and Delhi being the world’s most polluted capital city, Bihar’s Begusarai also made it to the list. The city was ranked the most polluted metropolitan region in the world.
On average, the PM2.5 concentration in India is 54.4 micrograms per cubic metre; the third-highest in the world. The national capital had a PM2.5 concentration of 92.7. This is worse than last year’s 89.1. And Begusarai’s PM2.5 concentration is 118.9!
PM2.5 stands for particulate matter which generally has a diameter of 2.5 micrometres or smaller. Such particulate matter is inhalable and therefore can be harmful to your respiratory system.
