Global warming is an issue- even if you don’t believe it, it’s a big issue. Untimed rains, extreme heat, changes in weather, etc., are proof that we humans have tampered with the environment a lot. And if you are someone, who wants to take care of the environment by doing your bit, on this world environment, here’s how you can protect the environment while travelling.
1. Reuse And Reuse
We cannot stress how important this is. The amount of plastic we use while travelling impacts our environment a lot. So, next time while travelling, make sure to carry a reusable bottle and avoid buying plastics now and then. Instead of using the hotel toiletry bottle (yes- they are made of plastic too, consider carrying your products in eco-friendly containers.
2. Find ways to reduce your carbon footprint
Every time you book a flight ticket, count your carbon footprint. Did you know that the aviation industry accounts for 859 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions in one year? And guess what? Well, we all contribute to it! So next time when you book a flight, try taking a direct flight, use public transport, explore the place on foot while travelling and think consciously.
3. Say yes to organic products
While it’s not always possible to find an alternative to plastic, you have to try! Instead of using plastic bottles, carry a steel bottle and refill that, carry a bamboo brush, fork and spoon on your travels. Use biodegradable wipes instead of perfumes; opt for shampoo bar instead of bottles. Yes, an alternative will cost a bit extra, but then it’s worth it if you aim to save the environment.
4. Support Local People & Businesses
Book through local vendors while booking a trip. Avoid mass-produced souvenirs (they’re made in factories with pathetic conditions) and opt for something local and handmade instead. Handmade gifts not only look more personal, and also you end up saving on plastic.
5. Choose your stay wisely
Before booking a hotel, look for eco-friendly options. There are tons of green and eco-hotels out there that look to balance accommodation with sustainability. If you are solo travel, choose hostels, or best choose homestays.
While there’s a lot you can do to save the environment, start with these steps first. Because little steps you take go a long way.
