Nothing compares to a nutrient-rich diet. From protein to vitamins to carbohydrates, a balance of every nutrient is necessary to maintain good physical and mental health. If you do not take care of food items efficiently, the chances of products rotting early increase. If you wish to keep your food items safe, here are 5 tips shared by FSSAI.
1. Cleanliness Is The KEY
The first step before touching an ingredient is to wash your hands thoroughly. Use soap or handwash to wash your hands before storing, chopping, and cooking food items. Also, take good care of utensils, equipment, and kitchen surfaces. Do not let insects anywhere near the kitchen.
2. Store Properly
Do not store raw and cooked food close to each other. First, use separate containers for their storage. Next, keep separate knives and chopping boards for vegetables and raw meat, poultry, and fish.

It is mainly significant while preparing recipes using meat, eggs, and fish. Also, ensure to reheat cooked food properly.
4. Maintain Safe Temperature
Storing food at the right temperature is important for its longevity.
- Cooked dishes must not be kept at room temperature for over 2 hours.
- Avoid dumping food items inside a refrigerator for a long time.
- Defrosting frozen products at room temperature is not a good idea.
5. Focus On Keeping Everything Fresh
Purchasing fresh produce is not enough.
- Make sure to wash everything thoroughly.
- Check the expiry date before buying food items.
- According to FSSAI, choosing pasteurised milk is a good option for safety.
