Holi, the festival of colours is just around the corner. With sweet shops selling the most colourful looking sweets, organic colours, vibrant apparel adorning shops, the most colourful festival of the year is on everyone’s mind. To add to the colours, an Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer shared a picture of the World’s Most Colourful Tree- Rainbow Eucalyptus. And it’s wowing netizens, who can’t get enough of its ethereal beauty.

Rainbow Eucalyptus Tree Sheds Bark To Unveil Vibrant Colours

On March 16, a few days before Holi, IFS officer Susanta Nanda shared multiple photos of the rainbow eucalyptus tree on Twitter. The caption reads that it’s the only eucalyptus tree in the northern hemisphere to the most colourful tree in the world. This tree sheds off its bark throughout each season, making way for fresh, bright, colourful rainbow hues underneath. The bark of the eucalyptus tree resembles a breathtaking painting. The rainbow eucalyptus is widely found in the forests of Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and the Philippines, where it’s grown for ornamental purposes instead of commercial ones.

Netizens Call It Natural Painting

Netizens were taken aback by its beauty and many called it a “natural painting”. The multi-coloured bark is a result of the “bark regeneration” phenomenon. Come summer, the tree sheds its old bark, and gives way to a fresh green bark. This green bark turns into different colours like blue, purple and red throughout the seasons. Social media users were curious if this tree could be cultivated in India as it’s certainly a sight to behold. Well, we hope to see this tree grow in India as well. Meanwhile, if you want to chase colours and rainbows, head to Odisha!
