Indian Passport Rises To 82nd Position On Henley Passport Index

Henley Passport Index 2024 has ranked India’s passport at the 82nd position. With Indian passport holders now enjoying visa-free entry to 58 foreign destinations, the country’s rank has significantly improved on this list of the most powerful passports in the world. India’s new rank ties it with countries like Senegal and Tajikistan.

As per Henley Passport Index’s data, India’s ranking fell from the 71st place in 2006 to the current 82nd rank. Since 2015, however, India remained in the mid-eighties ranking. So, this new ranking has been seen as a significant improvement.

Based on the data provided by the International Air Transport Authority (IATA), the Henley Passport Index 2024 curates the list of the most powerful passports in the world. As per a Hindustan Times report, the index excludes complex scenarios like diplomatic travel, emergency or temporary passports, and transit stops while curating this list.

Top 10 Most Powerful Passports In The World

Singapore has been recrowned the most powerful passport in the world for 2024. Last year, Singapore shared the top position with six countries. This year, however, Singapore emerged at the top of this list with a record-breaking 195 visa-free travel destinations for its citizens. A lot of countries are tied for other top spots on the list and a total of 34 countries are positioned in the top 10 most powerful passports.

3. Austria, Finland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, South Korea, Sweden (191)
4. Belgium, Denmark, New Zealand, Norway, Switzerland, United Kingdom (190)

6. Greece, Poland (188)
7. Canada, Czechia, Hungary, Malta (187)
8. United States (186)
9. Estonia, Lithuania, United Arab Emirates (185)
10. Iceland, Latvia, Slovakia, Slovenia (184)

As per the report, UAE has made it into the Top 10 list for the first time. Since the index’s inception in 2006, the country has risen a remarkable 53 places. On the other hand, Afghanistan maintains its position as the world’s weakest passport. Its citizens now have access to only 26 countries visa-free.
