The Internet is an interesting place to be! One minute you can be browsing some interesting article and the next minute, you can find a post that will make you scratch your head! We found one such post on X (formerly Twitter) where the user claimed that we can find one’s socio-economic status based on the age people and their mothers took their first flight! Intrigued, scroll on to know more about the post.
X User Suggests An Interesting Socio-Economic Marker Metric
At what age your mother boarded her first ever flight?
At what age you boarded your first ever fight?
Add the two. And you will get a socio-economic marker.
Generational rich score <10
(If no flights yet, assume age to be 60)

X (formerly Twitter) user, @GabbbarSingh, posted a metric that can, apparently, help you deduce your socio-economic status. As per his post, if you add the age your mother boarded her first-ever flight with the age you boarded your first-ever flight, then the answer will give you a socio-economic marker. The post then went on to mention that if the score is less than 10, then you are generationally wealthy!
Let’s do a poll :)
What’s your score?
— Gabbar (@GabbbarSingh) July 12, 2024
He even ran a poll and this is what the result looked like. What is interesting is that the X user did not mention what research or study is this entire exercise based on. As per the American Psychological Association, some socio-economic markers are education, income, employment, and family size/relationships.

What Netizens Had To Say About This Method
If you are wondering what is the basis of this tweet, then you aren’t alone. Many people in the comments section of this post questioned the research and study that this socio-economic marker calculation was based on. Some even called it a proof of our society’s development.
वाह, pretty-modern aviation marker of पीढ़ीगत धन!
Curious to know, if it is based on some socio-economic study/research or is it purely Gabbarnomics?🤓

Isn’t it a proof of development in last 70 years?

Strange way to measure richness! A person might never have set foot on a plane, ship or train yet he might have purchased so much gold in his life which even ten generations cannot purchase now. Who is richer?
— chandrashekhar (@cathavale) July 12, 2024
Interesting. My score is 40+ .
My firstborn’s score is 2.
Doesn’t that just make the availability of air travel more easy over the years?
— Pradeep Simhan (@psimhan) July 12, 2024
This is very much skewed since most of Indians took first flight after 2005… Younger guys would have very less number.. Older guys would have travelled by 1st ac bcos of lack of flights on that route
— norm (@learner_23) July 12, 2024
It also depends on willingness to spend. My parents are 100x of my wealth but i had to purchase a ticket and force them to take a flight after i finished 50+ flights including international

Stupidest thing I’ve seen on the internet today. I know someone from an erstwhile Royal family (very wealthy) who never got on a flight till she was in her 30s. I know several families where parents are diplomats/transferable jobs and they + kids travel young but aren’t “rich”.

On the other hand, some people called it an interesting exercise and shared their scores and stories behind their first flights as well.
This is a good exercise… 68 for. 60-85 type score would mean the next generation had a step up due to the efforts of the previous one.

Very good analysis and apt way to assess richness across generations.

Looked intresting but it can’t be a socio-economic marker
— SH Zeke🇮🇳 (@ullahsana07) July 12, 2024
23+49=72 🥲
But it was a proud moment to accompany parents in their first flight
It was like a dream for them— Vish 🇮🇳🇳🇱 (@Vishal99082006) July 12, 2024
Reminded me of my mother’s first flight. Took her to Bangalore to meet elder most brother! I was so excited that I completely forgot my luggage at home and spent my day 1 at Bangalore shopping for new clothes 😂. Still totally worth it!

Maa was around 52 , I was around 24 . Total 76. I also took my grand maa( Maa’s Maa) at age 85

Score 60+ for Ours but as I calculate my kids score it comes down to 20-30 !!
Next generation maybe even less, but by then air travel would not be as fascinating I guess !!— Anurag Singh (@anurag72singh) July 12, 2024
