Yamuna Expressway: In 8 Hours, Traffic Police Fined Over 154 Drivers For Overspeeding

Winter brings with it a sense of cosiness and comfort, but it also presents certain challenges for drivers. As winter is coming, some arrangements have been made for the safety of the people who drive. The Yamuna Expressway, which runs 165.5 kilometres from Greater Noida to Agra, has tightened traffic arrangements as winter draws near.

Arrangements Done By Traffic Police On Yamuna Expressway

From 6:30 AM on November 7, Gautam Budh Nagar traffic police in Noida took strong action against commuters who were speeding on the Yamuna Expressway, issuing more than 150 e-challans in eight hours totalling more than ₹5 lakh to offenders. Due to winter visibility concerns, the expressway now has a speed limit of 80 kmph for heavy vehicles and 100 kmph for light automobiles.

As reported by the Hindustan Times, Deputy Commissioner of police, Traffic, Yamuna Prasad stated that during the speeding campaign, 154 fines were issued against violators on the Yamuna Expressway and related roads. Speedometers have been installed across the district, and fines will be imposed for vehicles exceeding 100 km/hr. Due to fog during winter leading to reduced visibility, speed limits on major roads will be reduced from December 15 to February 15 as a mitigation measure.

Fines for exceeding speed limits are ₹2,000 for light vehicles and ₹4,000 for big vehicles. In Noida and Greater Noida, November is designated “Road Safety Month,” and traffic police are holding awareness campaigns at several sites. On the Noida Expressway, which connects Noida and Greater Noida, more speed-control drives are planned.
