Year In Search 2024: Sports, Travel, And Mindful Memes, Google Reveals What Captured India’s Attention In 2024

Every year in December, Google provides us a front-row seat to the grand highlight reel of our collective curiosity. It’s a time when we uncover what made us laugh, cry, cheer, and wonder—compiled into its much-anticipated Year in Search. And 2024? Oh, it’s been a wild ride! From cricket fever to binge-worthy dramas, from meme-worthy moments to unexpected lingo (what even is Pookie?), this year’s search trends are a rainbow of emotions, obsessions, and discoveries. And trust us, you don’t want to miss a thing!

Let’s dive in, shall we?

From Bali to Manali & Azerbaijan to Mango Pickles 2024’s travel trends were nothing short of epic. India’s wanderlust took us all over the globe, with Bali and Azerbaijan standing out as the hot favourites for international destinations. But it wasn’t just about faraway lands—closer to home, Manali and Jaipur sparked adventurous dreams.

And let’s not forget the culinary cravings that accompanied our travels! From the tangy flavours of Mango Pickle to sipping on a Pornstar Martini, our tastebuds were on a journey as exciting as our wanderlust.

When it comes to entertainment, this year was as diverse as it gets. Stree 2, with its supernatural thrills, emerged as the most searched movie in India. If you were looking for a deep dive into social issues, 12th Fail and Laapataa Ladies were top choices.

Amongst shows, Heeramandi (the historical drama from Sanjay Leela Bhansali) and Mirzapur (always a fan favourite for gritty crime drama) dominated the scene. Let’s not forget the rise of indie music in India! Indie hits like Nadaaniyan were all the rage.

Now, who can forget the memes that kept us laughing through the year? This year’s top meme was all about relationships—yes, we’re talking about the hilarious Orange Peel Theory. And of course, who could miss the viral Gen Z Boss meme? 2024 wasn’t just about the usual terms—it was the year of quirky lingo. Words like Pookie and Moye Moye made their way into our conversations, and people were curious about their meanings.

On a more serious note, global events also fueled our curiosity. The Palestine conflict led many to search for the meaning of All Eyes on Rafah, while India’s Lok Sabha elections had us turning to Google to learn everything about the elections.

If 2024 was any indication, sports also continue to be a huge part of India’s heart and soul. The Indian Premier League (IPL) once again stole the spotlight. As for our sporting heroes, Vinesh Phogat and Hardik Pandya were the athletes whose names sparked the most curiosity.
