Calling all wildlife enthusiasts! If you’re looking for a way to more directly support wildlife and their conservation, the Sanjay Gandhi National Park or SGNP in Borivali has started a unique and exciting programme. You can now adopt a wild animal at the sanctuary and support their health and wellness! Here are all of the other important details that you would need to know about this new initiative by the SGNP!

Adopt A Wild Animal At Sanjay Gandhi National Park

This is not the first time that the national park has started this initiative. Many notable figures like the director Shyam Benegal and Minister Ramdas Athawale have adopted animals via this scheme. You can adopt wild animals ranging from lions and tigers to spotted deer and neel gai.

The cost of adopting an animal is calculated on an annual basis. Adopting a spotted deer will cost you ₹20,000 annually whereas a neel gai will cost you ₹30,000 annually. A rusty spotted cat will cost you ₹50,000 annually and a leopard will set you back ₹1.2 lakh annually.

To no surprise, a lion and a tiger are the most expensive animals to adopt. A tiger will cost you ₹3 lakh per year whereas a lion will cost you a whopping ₹3.10 lakh. As per a post made by the national park on Instagram, the funds will go towards the care and maintenance of the animal.

Other Important Details That You Would Need To Know For It

The money will towards their food, upkeep and health checkups. People who adopt an animal may even get the exclusive chance to visit the animal and see how their money is directly impacting the animal.

Those who adopt will also routinely receive updates about their adoptive animal and how they are doing. Adopters will even get to learn about their background and other information about their animals.
