For the first time ever, the Railway Board has approved the operations of a bi-weekly train for Goa and Maharashtra’s Konkan on the Western Railway. The train will operate from Bandra Terminus station on the Western Railway (WR) to Madgaon in Goa. However, the inaugural run on this route will take place from Borivali station on August 29, instead of Bandra Terminus.

Currently, all Konkan and Goa-bound trains from Mumbai operate from Central Railway’s stations. This train will be the first train to run between Goa and Mumbai on the Western Railway. It will greatly benefit tourists from Mumbai’s Western suburbs. However, as per a Deccan Herald report, WR officials have mentioned that in the absence of a cord line, they will have to change the direction from north to south at Vasai Road to run Konkan-bound trains from their system. This will be time-consuming and could affect other trains’ punctuality as well.
