According to the new guidelines, operators in the UAE cannot receive applications or requests for Umrah or Hajj without obtaining prior approval from the General Authority of Islamic Affairs & Endowment. This development comes after hefty fines were announced for individuals, offices, and campaign organisers for misuse of agreement services. A report by Khaleej Times mentions that operators will now have to obtain approval from authorities before they organise or advertise Hajj or Umrah trips. Additionally, they will also not be allowed to collect or receive any donations for pilgrimage without obtaining a license.

In case you’re wondering, this new rule is for regulating the organising of the Islamic pilgrimage. Not to mention, this also includes licensing procedures and fines that are related to violations. At this point, it should be noted that license operators in the country have welcomed this new rule as it will deter illegal activities. Several tour organisers have welcomed this ruling, as many people try to enter illegally during the Hajj season. Not to mention, it will also deter illegal operators that advertise Umrah permits for extremely low costs on social media.

As a result, people have been advised to check for the licenses of the travel agents in order to be sure about the credibility of the agency.

This law is a welcome addition as several pilgrims spend their whole lives saving for the journey to perform the sacred religious duty. As a result, there are possibilities of companies out there that might take advantage of the people’s trust. So, the next time you apply to undertake this journey, you might want to check the license of the company or the individual organising the tour.
