According to the Times of India, the completion of the entire Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is facing a two-year delay. While several sections of the project are facing delays because of slow progress, three segments in Gujarat, totalling 87 km, are the biggest concerns. As per reports, one 35-km stretch shows no progress, while the other two display minimal advancement at 7% and 35%, respectively.

The entire 1,382-km Delhi-Mumbai Expressway was split into smaller packages for simultaneous construction across Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Maharashtra. All of them were tendered with an initial March 2024 deadline. That was later revised to October 2025. However, recent assessments show that the project may not be fully operational until 2027. Recently, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari assessed the progress of the ₹1 lakh crore project with NHAI and ministry officials. He urged them for a faster execution.

A few weeks back, Harsh Malhotra, Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Delhi, indicated completion of the entire stretch of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway in Delhi by 2026. As per officials, the entire Haryana section is complete, while the Rajasthan sections are scheduled for March-April 2026 completion.

Furthermore, most of the Maharashtra packages are likely to be completed by year-end, except the 21-km Jawaharlal Nehru Port link. The stretch was initially planned for MSRDC construction. Now, however, the highway ministry approved NHAI’s involvement in this stretch.
