Hidden Disabilities Programme Launches At Zayed International Airport

Travelling is something that everyone enjoys. And making this a novel experience for those with hidden disabilities, Abu Dhabi Airports and Etihad Airways have launched a Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Programme. This initiative is their commitment to supporting every passenger especially those with non-visible disabilities. For those who aren’t aware, Hidden Disabilities Sunflower is a globally recognised symbol for people who have non-visible disabilities. And now, this is also available at the airport in Abu Dhabi. In fact, the programme offers a discrete way for passengers with conditions, such as chronic pain, anxiety, or even autism to communicate. They signal to the staff that they may require additional assistance and compassion, allowing passengers to pick up their complimentary lanyards and two dedicated Special Assistance Desks.

As shown in the video posted by the Zayed International Airport on its social media, these desks are located in the pre-check-in area. As a result, it allows people to discreetly communicate their needs and thereby create a more supportive environment for everybody. A natural extension of empowering passengers, this support is bound to make their journey at the airport a breezy affair. In fact, as revealed by the Khaleej Times, both Etihad Airways and Zayed International Airports have implemented comprehensive staff training for the success of the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Programme. As a result, frontline teams from the airport have undergone specialised training to understand the needs of passengers with such disabilities. In fact, staff members who have completed the training will wear a badge to indicate that they have been trained to support the initiative.

So if you know someone who might need such assistance when travelling from the airport, make sure to let them know about this brilliant development. After all, everybody deserves to have a seamless travel experience.
