A distressing video showing a 12-year-old girl falling from a zipline in Manali has gone viral on social media. The girl and her family, hailing from Nagpur, were visiting Manali when the accident occurred. She was immediately taken to the hospital with severe injuries. This disturbing event has raised questions about how safe is ziplining in India and what standard precautions are taken during this widely popular adventure sport.
Nagpur Girl Falls Off Zipline As Harness Snaps In Manali
According to Hindustan Times, 12-year-old Trisha from Nagpur was visiting Manali with her family last week when a ziplining activity turned tragic. On June 8, she fell from a height of at least 30 feet onto rocks along the Beas riverbank after the zipline cable snapped mid-ride. She sustained multiple fractures and was first taken to Mission Hospital in Manali before being referred to PGIMER in Chandigarh for further treatment.
Trisha’s parents have now taken her back to Nagpur and admitted her to a private hospital there. According to the latest updates, the girl is currently in stable condition. Furthermore, the family has not pressed any charges against the zipline company.
How Safe Is Ziplining In India?
The now-viral video of Trisha’s zipline harness snapping mid-way in Manali has shaken the internet. It has also raised questions about the safety standards and protocols followed during this famous adventure sport in India.
Despite its popularity, there is a lack of a centralised regulatory authority specifically overseeing adventure sports like ziplining. While guidelines exist under the Adventure Tourism guidelines by the Ministry of Tourism, there is no consistent enforcement across the country.
Routine safety audits are often missing, especially in remote or low-traffic locations, and operator standards also vary. While some zipline operators maintain international safety standards, many smaller or seasonal setups may cut corners due to cost or lack of training.
We strongly urge our readers to look for places accredited by bodies like the Adventure Tour Operators Association of India (ATOAI) or that follow UIAA or EN safety standards while ziplining.
