We cannot deny online delivery platforms’ immense contribution to easing our daily lifestyles. Be it food delivery apps or quick commerce platforms, these companies and their efficient services help us save a lot of time by staying at home and delivering orders to our doorsteps. Though these save time, do they save money? Well, ordering food from restaurants can be expensive at times, especially with additional costs. Recently, a Zomato customer pointed out a veg mode enablement fee on the platform. What is it all about?

Zomato Added A Veg Mode Enablement Fee For Vegetarian Orders

LinkedIn user Rohit Ranjan shared a post highlighting this new fee on the mobile app.

Quite understandably, the IIM Kozhikode graduate was angered seeing this extra fee on the Zomato app. Calling out this surprising charge, he shared how being a vegetarian in India feels like a curse. Zomato’s decision to charge extra for the veg enablement fleet is controversial.

Sharing a screenshot of his order bill and highlighting the veg mode enablement fee of ₹2, he called it a luxury tax. He expressed frustration and stated how the extra charge for delivering vegetarian orders has turned customers “into a premium subscription plan.”

For all the vegetarians, Rohit shared, “We’ve gone from green and healthy to green and pricey.” Taking a cheeky dig at Zomato, he thanked Swiggy for treating its customers equally.
