What Is It?

Built in 1783, it was originally a bungalow belonging to Raja Jai Singh, and the eighth Sikh guru, Guru Har Krishan Ji resided here during his stay in Delhi in 1664. 

The langar started as a concept of a free kitchen and was taken up as an initiative to encourage everyone to be a part in the whole process of serving and eating this auspicious meal served right at the footsteps of God. It serves around 25,000 people daily coming in from all walks of life.

The meals are cooked by the staff members of Gurudwara, although you’ll find volunteers coming in from various parts of the world lending a helping hand and taking pride in it.

What’s In It?

It is fascinating to watch how the hall fills up in every 15 minutes with approx 150 people at a time. They’re all served in silver thalis with dal, chapatis and one vegetable and of course, the highlight being the prasad which is cooked in pure ghee, just too hard to resist. What’s more – they give you multiple servings to leave you happy and content!

Enjoy this meal in a dreamy setting of the Gurudwara adorning golden domes and flagpole, or walk around the main shrine and the huge tank that has holy water!
