Smoke House Deli, BKC launched in December 2013, has been trying to get a pie of the over-crowded restaurant scene in BKC. The European food that they serve is touted to be their differentiator.
What Is It?
Surrounded by restaurants like Pizza Express and Masala Library, the Deli is strategically located at the financial powerhouse of Mumbai, Bandra Kurla Complex. Don’t be surprised to see neckties and white collars on a Thursday afternoon. The interiors are neat, tables spread out wisely, making sure you do not bump into people or furniture as you walk to the bar or the washroom. I was trying to understand the hand drawn illustrations on the wall but soon gave up as I figured its just good to look at.
The cocktail menu features perplexing combinations of fruit, herbs and liquor. The bartender did a good job with the Kiwi + Melon + Jasmine drink, though the Kiwi Margarita was as thick as yoghurt making it difficult to gulp it down the throat.
The Peri Peri Rubbed Chicken Satay (Rs 39 ) was wholesome, healthy as well as hearty. The Smoked Pimento and Jalapeno Crostini (Rs 340) served on toast like bruschetta is a decent finger food to have.
The mains took invariably long to arrive. And was it worth the wait? Yes, indeed! The Chilli Crusted John Dory with Citrus Thyme Veloute (Rs 840) won my heart. An orange colour fish laid on risotto was delicious in every sense. Paying due respect to the burger festival, I also got my hands dirty with Coal Smoked Chicken Legs with Cream Cheese (Rs 360). And it did manage to live up to my expectations.
All in all, with taxes, the bill came up to Rs 3400. Quite steep for two, I say! But if you compare this with the restaurants in the vicinity, a Masala Library or a Yauatcha would cost you no less. So if you have grown out of having Indian, Chinese or Italian food during lunch breaks, try the European food at the Deli for a change!
