Mumbai FDA Suspends 10 Food Establishments

According to the FDA’s statement issued on October 9, inspections revealed several lapses, including unhygienic premises, inadequate refrigeration, pest infestations and non-compliance with mandatory food safety requirements. The act was part of a wider statewide crackdown on suspected adulterated, substandard and mislabelled food products. During checks, authorities found deficiencies in the availability and display of Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) licences. Some food handlers were reportedly not wearing gloves, headgear and aprons. Establishments were also found lacking mandatory medical certificates for workers and records of food safety training.

Inspectors flagged dirty or damaged walls, ceilings and floors, along with the presence of pests such as rats, cockroaches and flies. Other lapses included inadequate refrigeration and improper segregation of raw and cooked food, which can increase the risk of cross-contamination.

These findings highlight the importance of maintaining clean food preparation areas, ensuring proper storage temperatures and following hygiene protocols. Food businesses are required to comply with food safety regulations to protect consumers.
