As a true foodie, I am always on the lookout for new cuisines and dining spots. This time, my craving to try something different took me to Sahtain. It’s an amazing place to visit with family and friends. Located in Ahmedabad, Sahtain serves delicious North African and Levantine cuisine, and I am excited to share my experience with you.
What It’s Like Inside Sahtain In Ahmedabad
The moment I walked into Sahtain in Ahmedabad, I was impressed. This restaurant looks beautiful, elegant, and thoughtfully designed. From the soft lighting and stylish round seating to the eye-catching hanging décor, every corner feels aesthetic. The orange hanging lights paired with the white glass globes in between were the first thing I noticed.
In one corner of the restaurant, there are wooden hanging panels showcasing historical details from 1700 CE, 1800 CE, and beyond. They also have private dining space that can be booked for celebrations and intimate get-togethers. If you’re visiting during the monsoon, the raindrops trickling down the glass walls of the private area add an extra touch of romance to the whole experience.
Let’s Talk About The Food
1. Salad

- Fattoush
I never thought a salad could taste this good. It featured fresh rocket leaves, tomatoes, and cucumbers, all tossed in pomegranate molasses. Every bite had a nice crunch, followed by a slight bitterness that worked surprisingly well.
- Tabbouleh
The next dish I would happily come back for is the Tabbouleh salad. Made with fresh parsley, it instantly refreshes your taste buds. It has a light citrusy taste, and if you’re looking for something healthy yet delicious, this one is definitely worth trying.
2. Hummus

- Pine Nut
The first hummus we tried was the pine nut hummus. It was smooth and slightly nutty. I enjoyed it with the warm pita bread. In one bite, I even added some Fattoush salad on top, and let me tell you, it’s a must-try combination.
- Mango
If you’re a mango and hummus lover, this variety is a must-try. This hummus has juicy, sweet mango bites that I made sure not to miss in every bite. I ate it with pita bread, and it added the perfect touch of sweetness.
3. Halloumi Cheese
- With Sugar and Red Grapes
For me, the Halloumi cheese was similar to paneer. It had a slightly salty taste and was prepared by grilling the cheese. It was then topped with hot sugar and grapes. As soon as I took a bite, it didn’t taste anything like the usual cheese we eat. It was surprisingly sweet, thanks to the sugar and red grapes on top.
- With Pesto
We also tried another version of Halloumi cheese at this Ahmedabad restaurant, which was topped with creamy pesto. If you’re someone who loves pesto sauce, then it’s a must-try.
4. Cheese Samosa
As an Indian, a samosa has to be on your food list. If you’re someone who doesn’t like a lot of stuffing in a samosa and prefers something simple, then you can definitely try the cheese samosa.
5. Falafel
In Falafel, we tried both the cheese and classic varieties. The falafel was perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It tastes best when enjoyed hot and is usually eaten with tahini sauce. In the first bite, I could taste herbs like cilantro and parsley perfectly. The cheesy falafel had the perfect cheese burst, and as a cheese lover, I was happy not to miss out on it.

6. Muhammara
The Muhammara had the perfect tangy taste. This dish is made with walnuts, red peppers, and spices. I enjoyed it on its own as well as with pita bread. In fact, the pita bread paired well with almost every dish I tried at Sahtain.
7. Za’atar & Cheese Manakeesh

Are you a fan of achari flavours? Then the Za’atar & Cheese Manakeesh is a must-try. It was served like a pizza, and in just one bite, I got the perfect achari taste. It was also topped with cheese, which made it even more delicious.
8. Ouzi

This dish is served like a biryani, covered on top. As soon as I took the first bite, I was hit with the taste of tomatoes. The dish also contains various other vegetables that add to its flavour. Along with it, you’re served a fresh tomato sauce.

9. Desserts

- Umm Ali
If you want to add a nostalgic touch to your meal, then do try Umm Ali. It’s like enjoying traditional khari dipped in milk. This dish is served warm and contains puff pastry, coconut, caramelised almonds, and raisins soaked in milk.
- Medjool & Manjari
Imagine you’re having dates for dessert, but with a chocolaty twist. The dates I enjoyed at Sahtain were dipped in chocolate, and when you take a bite, they give the perfect chocolatey burst.
- Kahwa Chocolate Mousse
Next, for me, the perfect dessert means more and more chocolate, and that’s exactly what this dish was about. In the first bite, I was hit with the rich and intense taste of dark chocolate. If you’re trying it, don’t forget to add some cherry compote to your bite.
10. Drinks

- Golden Bloom
For the drink, I first tried Golden Bloom. This drink was made with jasmine water, Bulgarian rose, and tonic. As soon as you bring the drink close to your nose, you’ll be hit with the rich aroma of jasmine, and in the very first sip, you’ll get its flavour too. The highlight of this drink, however, was its shimmery touch. It looked absolutely glittery!
- Rose of the Levant
The next drink we tried was Rose of the Levant. This drink had rose petals in it and carried the fresh aroma of the flower, which you could enjoy in every sip. It also had a slight citrusy flavour that added a refreshing touch.
My experience at Sahtain was an absolute blast, and I am already planning to revisit!
