According to a report by TimeOut, the historically fascinating abode, built in 1902 was one of the first five hydraulic pumping stations in the London Hydraulic Power Company. Established in 1883, this company was responsible for installing the hydraulic power network in London. Before being replaced by electricity, the company established pumping stations in London to power the city. The final pump shut down in 1977.

Nestled on Renforth Street in Canada Water, south-east London, this Victorian house was once one of the five pumping stations.
