As everybody celebrates World Autism Day on April 2, Dubai is also doing its bit to raise awareness about the disorder. Yes, the Dubai Autism Centre has launched the 18th one-month-long Autism Awareness Campaign under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who is the Crown Prince of Dubai. It coincides with World Autism Day and this year the slogan is trusting parents, empowered kids. Here’s all about it!

18th One-Month-Long Autism Awareness Campaign Begins In Dubai

Mohammed Al Emadi, who is the Director General of Dubai Autism Centre has emphasised the significance of having faith in the capabilities of children with autism. In fact, he also mentioned that this campaign will feature a slew of events and activities for promoting awareness.

What Activities Can You Expect During The Campaign?

The most notable activities are Ramadan Awareness Nights, workshops for mainstream teachers, and even educational sessions for public and private sector organisations. As a result, it will create a more autism-friendly environment. Thereby, building a more inclusive and welcoming community for everybody.

It’s worth mentioning that the campaign is expected to utilise mass media, cinemas and even a network of more than 2000 digital screens. This will be in public spaces across the UAE such as the Union Coops and Aswaaq supermarkets.

Landmarks To Light Up In Blue On World Autism Day

In fact, there are plans for organising a Ramadan Evening on April 4, which will feature panel discussions. This is a part of the campaign and is being organised by the Dubai Autism Centre in cooperation with the Community Development Authority in Dubai. If you’re wondering about the topics, these will address the importance of family support and ways to strengthen the relationship of parents with their children with autism.

Moreover, on World Autism Day, landmarks across Dubai are illuminated in blue to honour the day. And as a part of the 18th annual Autism Awareness Campaign, several other landmarks will also be lighting up in blue. This will include the Burj Khalifa, Dubai Frame, Mohammed bin Rashid Library, Ain Dubai, Burj Al Arab, and the Global Village.

Recent studies point out that one in 36 children is affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder, which is a neurological and developmental disorder. So, the campaign is bound to create more awareness regarding this disorder.
