The Indian Railways or the IR has reached a significant milestone with the manufacture of the first prototype of the Vande Bharat sleeper trainset, which is poised to undergo critical field trials in the near future. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed the development in a written parliamentary response, emphasising that the train’s eventual rollout is contingent upon the successful completion of these comprehensive trials. Here are all of the other important details that you would need to know about these trains.

Vande Bharat Sleeper Train: First Prototype Manufactured

According to an article which was recently published by the Business Standard or the BS, the Vande Bharat sleeper trains are designed to revolutionise long and medium-distance travel. These sleeper trains represent a quantum leap in railway technology and passenger comfort.

The trains boast an impressive array of cutting-edge features that set them apart from conventional rail services. Key technological innovations include the Kavach automatic train protection system, which significantly enhances passenger safety, and a regenerative braking mechanism that improves overall energy efficiency.

The minister highlighted several distinguished attributes of these trains, such as advanced fire safety standards, crashworthy semi-permanent couplers, and anti-climber designs. Additionally, the trains are engineered to deliver higher average speeds with rapid acceleration and deceleration capabilities, promising a more dynamic and responsive travel experience.

Vaishnaw emphasised that the introduction of new train services, including Vande Bharat variants, remains an ongoing process. The expansion is carefully evaluated based on multiple factors, including traffic demand, operational feasibility, and resource availability.

The sleeper train prototype marks a significant step in India’s ambition to modernise its railway infrastructure, promising passengers a more technologically advanced, safe, and comfortable travelling experience.
