Booking.com, a leading digital travel company, has unveiled its Gen.Voyage! research, a comprehensive study on intergenerational travel with insights from over 8,000 travellers across 11 markets, including India.

The findings reveal that more than half (57%) of Indian travellers plan to embark on intergenerational trips within the next 12 months. The research explores the growing trend of families travelling together for leisure, including grandparents, parents, children, and extended family members. In India, the cultural emphasis on extended family living together greatly influences travel preferences. Shared values and close-knit relationships lead families to choose vacations that unite grandparents, parents, children, and extended relatives.

- Memorable trips: Intergenerational travel strengthens family bonds, with 51% of Indian travellers enjoying the joy of creating lasting memories together. 44% believe it allows them to learn from different generational perspectives. 35% feel these experiences have a lasting impact on personal growth and worldviews. Additionally, 35% of Indian travellers find that sharing costs make these holidays more affordable.
- Millennials lead: Millennials take the lead in family trip planning. Gen Zs actively participate as well, with 47% co-planning and personalising itineraries.
- Destinations: 32% of Indian families travel for reunions or special occasions. One in five families prefers beach getaways, while 21% opt for rural or countryside experiences. Popular vacation activities include food experiences (25%), sightseeing (22%), and spiritual trips (21%).

Planning a trip that satisfies everyone can be challenging, with 31% of families facing clashing interests, priorities, and activity preferences. Successful travel often requires compromise to ensure everyone has something to look forward to.
32% struggle to balance relaxation and adventure, while 23% cater to diverse dietary needs. Additional complexities include managing energy levels and stamina (27%), keeping children engaged while involving older adults (28%), and addressing conflicts from generational gaps (27%). Moreover, 25% of Indian travellers report that larger groups can lead to higher travel costs.
