Food challenges are enjoyable, but occasionally they become risky when people transcend the boundary of safety, which is when accidents occur. A 25-year-old guy recently died after participating in a momo-eating food challenge with a friend for ₹1,000 and devouring 150 momos.

The incident happened at a booth in Gyani Mor in the Siwan district of Bihar, when the deceased Vipin Kumar agreed to a bet between friends to see who could eat the most momos before passing out after 150 of them. His friends initially thought their friend was acting sick to trick them. But, they soon recognised he was unresponsive and took him to a private hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The deceased consumed a significant number of momos after accepting a challenge from his pals, according to Shashi Ranjan Kumar, the SHO. His companions transported him to a private hospital when they realised he was ill. Later on, the local medical staff pronounced him dead.

According to a Times Of India report, the deceased’s family claimed that his friends poisoned him before leaving him in the vicinity of a hospital. They also claimed that they didn’t even let them know the deceased was dead. The family members were awaiting the post-mortem report to learn the reason for death as the officer in charge of the case.

Earlier, in June 2022, a 50-year-old man passed away after choking on momos. This prompted the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) to issue a warning that everyone should “swallow with care” when eating the popular snack in India.
