The work on the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway is underway and if all things go right, then a 32-km stretch of the road, starting from Akshardham in Delhi, will be open by November. While the work on all four phases is underway, a Times of India report suggests that the first leg of the massive project will be open for vehicular traffic by November.

This 32-km long section from Akshardham to Eastern Peripheral Express (EPE) includes elevated roads and service roads as well. About 19 km out of this 32 km road is elevated. It had been reported that this elevated stretch will be completed by July this year.

This leg of the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway will have seven entry and four exit points for a smooth traffic flow. Also, the Delhi-EPE stretch is likely to reduce the traffic congestion on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway.

As per the Times of India report, this stretch passes through Geeta Colony, Shastri Park, Sonia Vihar in Delhi and Vijay Vihar, Kasim Vihar and Mandola in Uttar Pradesh. The seven entry points will be from Geeta Colony, Shamshan Ghat (Kailash Nagar), Sonia Vihar, Vijay Vihar, and Mandola. The exits will be at Khajuri Chowk, Sonia Vihar, Vijay Vihar and Mandola. Also, as per the report, commuters entering and exiting the expressway in Delhi will not have to pay any toll.

Vehicular traffic coming from Uttar Pradesh to Delhi can enter this sketch at Mandola, Vijay Vihar and 5th Pusta. They can exit this road at Mandola, Loni, Vijay Vihar, Usmanpur, Shamshan Ghat, Geeta Colony and Akshardham.

The Delhi-Dehradun expressway is one of the most-anticipated highways in the country right now! This high-speed corridor is likely to reduce the travel time from the current five hours to two-and-a-half hours upon completion! It will give seamless connectivity to commuters between the two cities and will have both ground-level and elevated sections. It is being built at an estimated cost of ₹12,000 crore.

The six-lane Delhi-Dehradun expressway will be about 212 km in length. Currently, commuters have to drive on a 250 km stretch to travel between the two cities. What’s worse is they even have to cover the congested stretches of Ghaziabad, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Roorkee, and Haridwar. Once open, they will be able to skip these areas altogether!

Currently, the official deadline for the Delhi-Dehradun expressway is December 2024. So, are you excited to drive on this expressway once it’s fully operational? Let us know in the comments!
