The monstrous shadow of COVID-19 is rearing its head again in the country. In a matter of 24 hours, the number of COVID-19 cases spiked by 328. As per experts, it’s a new COVID-19 variant called JN.1 which is a cause for significant concern. More so because during this time of year, people travel a lot which can increase its spread. Here are all of the important details that you would need to know about this new update.

Amid the Christmas and New Year’s cheers, COVID-19 is giving rise to fears. The new COVID-19 variant JN.1, it seems, is spreading fast and raising concerns. According to an article which was recently published by the Times Now News, 358 new COVID-19 cases were reported on 21 December.

The new cases are from Gujarat, New Delhi, Goa, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Kerala and other states across the country. As per the World Health Organisation ( WHO) the JN.1 variant is distinct from its parental lineage BA.2.86.

Total Number Of Cases Has Now Reached 2,669

The article also mentioned that as per the official website of the Health Ministry of India, the total number of cases as of now is 2,669. The majority of these are from Kerala. In addition to this coastal state, Tamil Nadu as well as Karnataka are witnessing a spike in cases.

As per reports, the variant was initially detected in an elderly woman who was 79 years old. The rapid spread of the virus is a significant cause of concern especially because people travel more frequently during this time of the year. This may boost the spread of the virus.
