That Bangalore is known for its unfathomable traffic jams is not new. But what’s new is that the opening weekend of Bangalore’s largest mall, Phoenix Mall of Asia caused serpentine traffic jams for over 2-3 km. Bangaloreans took to X (formerly Twitter) to share their experiences stuck in traffic for hours as they navigated their way to the extravagant Phoenix Mall of Asia on the day of its opening. Here’s what ensued.

The highly anticipated Phoenix Mall of Asia near Hebbal opened its grand doors to the public on October 27, Friday at 12pm. What followed was a live musical performance by the three-time Grammy award winner and Bengaluru boy, Ricky Kej.

What’s to look forward to at Phoenix Mall of Asia? What’s the hype all about, you ask? Nestled across an impressive 13 acres the mall is home to a whopping collection of 440 renowned brands, a gorgeous 14-screen INOX Megaplex and over 50 delish restaurants and cafes.

From trendy streetwear to fashion labels to high-end couture, Bangalore’s largest mall is a shopping paradise. The parking space itself can accommodate 3100 vehicles. Now, while these are reasons enough for the mall to trend on social media platforms, it’s actually causing an Internet frenzy for a whole different reason.

On its opening weekend, Phoenix Mall of Asia near Hebbal caused an unfathomable traffic jam in Bangalore. As curious Bangaloreans flocked in large numbers to explore the extravagant mall, its entertainment and recreation offerings, the roads near Hebbal bore the brunt.

Netizens Take To X To Share Their Traffic Woes

It caused massive traffic snarls near the area. Many commuters took to X to share their experiences battling traffic for hours. They shared pictures and videos of the congested roads where vehicles showed no sign of moving forward. Some even shared screenshots of their Google Maps that showed red lines along the roads, indicating chaotic traffic situations.

With the advent of this mall, it can unfortunately become another Whitefield road situation, fears this X user.

Fair reason why Bangaloreans witnessed congestion.

Even residents staying near the mall have taken to X to appeal to the cops to impose “no parking” around Phoenix Mall of Asia.

Looks like Bengaluru Traffic Police need to jump in and ensure such situations do not happen in the future.
