With Jammu and Kashmir opening areas near the Line of Control (LoC) to increase the state’s tourism, new offbeat and unexplored places have been gaining footfalls. Keran Village In Kashmir is one of them and is located on the banks of the Kishanganga River. If you are planning to visit Keran Village then you have to have approved and secured permission from the District Magistrate of Kupwara. Otherwise, you will not be permitted to visit it for security reasons near LoC

5 Places To Visit In Keran Village In Kashmir

1. Kishanganga River

This river is a popular one being the aquatic border between India and Pakistan. Thus it is under the Line of Control. The Pakistanis renamed this river as Neelum River after partition. Visiting this river can be quite mesmerising as it offers picturesque views. Sitting by this gushing river and watching it flow is serene and gives calmed vibes. The atmosphere is also very peaceful which helps. If you are planning to be adventurous then, you can go fishing or river rafting. 

2. Firkiyan Gali or Pharkiyan Gali

While you are on your way to Keran Village in Kashmir, you will come across this, Firkiyan Gali or Pharkiyan Gali, right out of Pinterest into the real world. This scene is what pictures on Google searches look like and you will witness the beauty with your eyes. This mountain pass is at a height of 9,840 ft and offers a pristine view of the valley. That too a 360 view of the valley along with gushing streams and meadows. 

3. First Post Office Of India

This suggestion is a great one for the history buffs. There is a post office in Keran Village which you cannot skip if you travel here. This unique post office has opened its gates or should we say, opened its letterboxes since the British era and is the first of its kind in Kashmir! Even the signboard says ”First Post Office of India”. This is still very much operational and there is one postmaster and rest three are mail runners. 

4. Kalaroos caves

This is a nearby spot to the village and it is believed to be one of the mysterious sites of the district of Kupwara. It is a popular picnic spot as many believe that these caves led to Russia. It has seven carved doors which only is a believed connection to Russia.

5. Lolab Valley

This valley is also a nearby spot. It is known as the ‘Fruit Bowl of Jammu and Kashmir’ because you can find many fruit trees here. It is also attached to Neelum and Kashmir Valley. Try and spot Himalayan Black Bear when you visit and try not to panic if you do.
