This is not the first time this country in Oceania has experienced something so alarming. The location of the country is such a part of the earth that earthquakes have become a common phenomenon now. Unfortunately, we often come across news of incidents like earthquakes jolting in different places of the country and sadly there have been times when people lost their lives due to the disasters. There have been similar incidents recorded this year and last year as well.

Just some time back in April, almost 180 homes faced severe damages after a 7.0 magnitude earthquake jolted here. Though the epicentre of the quake was Karawari covered by jungles and greenery, about 7 people lost their lives following the spine-chilling tremors and the consequences. More than a year back in September 2023, a 7.6 magnitude earthquake hit this country. Ten people died, houses were damaged, roads witnessed deep splits, and many such scary aftermaths were reported after the tremors in the northern part of Papua New Guinea.
