Exciting news for travellers in the Northeast! The redevelopment of 60 railway stations across the region has begun, thanks to the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS). This initiative is set to revolutionise the way passengers experience travel in India, with the Northeast being one of the major regions to benefit from this ambitious project. Of the 60 stations, 50 are located in Assam, which will see some remarkable changes.
Northeast Railway Stations Set For Transformation
The project is about making these chosen railway stations modern and accessible and equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and offering a seamless travel experience. Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, the Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Northeast Frontier Railway, shared that these redevelopment works are already underway, and some stations are nearing completion. As per the Business Standard reports, stations like Haiborgaon, Narengi, Jagiroad, and Chaparmukh are already on the path to transformation.
The new features of these stations are designed to cater to the needs of all passengers. Here, you can expect modern infrastructure equipped with lifts and escalators, improved entry and exit points, spacious parking lots, and dedicated pathways for easier movement. The redevelopment also focuses on ensuring that people with disabilities have seamless access to the station. New signage, better lighting, and clean toilets will also ensure comfort and convenience for travellers.
