Dharmalingam Pillay or ‘Dan’ from Durban is a 69-year-old amnesiac. Along with his daughter, he came to India as a tourist. During the duo’s time here, they visited Bangalore and Chennai. The incident took place while the father-daughter duo were waiting for their flight back to South Africa which got delayed by three hours. The daughter accidentally fell asleep and the father, who has a short-term memory loss disease, walked out of the airport.

When the daughter awoke, she found her father missing and started a frantic search for him throughout the airport.

Leaving the airport once you have entered is not allowed. On inquiry, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), said that Dan self-offloaded and has left the airport premises. This was 13 days ago. Since then, the daughter has been staying in a hotel and has been posting missing person posters across the city on a rented scooter.

She has also registered a missing persons report with the Sahar Police Station. Even the South African Embassy in Mumbai has been cooperating in the effort to locate him and has circulated around 6,000 pamphlets.
