McDonald’s is a ubiquitously loved fast-food chain worldwide. If you’re looking for a filling yet cheap option, most people’s go-to is McDonald’s. But this Singaporean couple held an honest-to-goodness wedding and got married at a local McDonald’s outlet!
Singaporean Couple Get Married At McDonald’s
This particular couple from Singapore had their dream wedding at their local McDonald’s. Elson Tong and Yong Yong Qing met in junior college in the year 2015. They recently decided to get married after being together for almost seven years. The wedding took place on the 19th of July at the West Coast Park outlet.
Tong works in the Ministry of foreign affairs whereas Qing is a senior associate at the Changi Airport. When they told their families that they were going to get married at a McDonald’s, they thought it was a joke and were very surprised.
According to an article recently published in The Straits Times, the couple spent around 700 Singaporean dollars on the food and venue. What a budget-friendly wedding! Surely, they were able to save a lot of money that would be better spent on building a future together.
Started Out As A Joke
The article states that the idea to get married at a McDonald’s started out as a joke. The couple recalls sitting in an outlet, sharing a meal together when Tong joked that he wished to get married to the Buttermilk Crispy Chicken Burger. This menu item is an absolute favourite of his.
This prompted Qing to joke that maybe they should get married at a McDonald’s. They initially laughed the idea off. Soon, however, they started warming up to it. And why wouldn’t they? It would be a unique wedding and they would save a fortune! So they decided to do it!
