Air India has lately managed to find itself stuck in almost every kind of airline-related backlash and controversy. Be it passenger-related behaviour or the airline’s shortcomings itself. This time, Air India caught itself receiving flak for cancelling a flight from Vancouver to Delhi after making passengers wait for 6 hours.

According to reports, the Air India flight AI186, which was scheduled to operate from Vancouver to Delhi on July 2 2023, was at first rescheduled. It was only when a technical issue was detected in the operating aircraft that the flight was cancelled.

The flight was reportedly cancelled due to an engine issue.

Some guests aboard the flight were accommodated by flights operated by other airlines. While the rest of the passengers aboard the delayed flight were offered other alternative arrangements.

Along with arrangements, additional support was also provided until they were en route to Delhi again.

A significant number of passengers on the flight to Delhi were students who were heading back for their summer break. Notably, approximately 25 students from the University of British Columbia were among the travellers.

Moreover, the flight also accommodated senior citizens and children.

In a similar occurrence, on May 22, an Air India flight bound for Delhi and scheduled to depart from Vancouver faced a delay of 12 hours. Eventually, the flight had to be cancelled due to technical issues.

Many of the students aboard the flight allegedly claimed that they were not offered much assistance by the airline. No airline staff helped them and they were forced to return from the airport after 11 hours.
