In a very exciting episode of Tere Gully Mein, we explored the lanes of Ghatkopar Khaugalli with Sufi Motiwala. During the food trail, he opened up about his life, career, fashion choices, and more. Known for his spot-on fashion reviews, with absolutely no sugarcoating, Sufi doesn’t hold back when commenting on celebrity outfits, boldly sharing his fashion judgments with the audience. So, we had him give his quirky takes on some of Khaugalli’s viral food combos. Though he wasn’t too impressed with the street food in Mumbai and Delhi, and trolled them in his signature sassy style. Being a true-blue Surat native, we had to ask, does Surat’s street food live up to his standards? Read on to find out.
Sufi Motiwala Talks About Surat’s Street Food
The bizarre food combos at Khaugalli shocked Sufi Motiwala, and he questioned why people even enjoy them. He trolled almost every dish and gave most of them the lowest ratings you can imagine. From Breadless Sandwich and Paan Milkshake to Kurkure Momos and Monacan, he barely liked any. He even called out Delhi as a chor (thief) for copying everything from the Northeast and claiming they serve the best momos. Sufi’s take on food is just as selective as his fashion reviews, and we’re all for it! We couldn’t help but ask what he has to say about Surat’s street food.
Commenting on Surat’s food scene, Sufi said, “Surat’s street food, mainly, I’ve realised how nonsensical they can be.” He talked about how Surat’s 5-star restaurants serve the Burmese dish Khau Suey in a very elaborate manner. “Like choti si katori mein pyaaz hai, fir fryums hai, fir noodles hain, fir soup hai. And when you go to Surat, waha pe aisi rekdi pe Khau Suey mil raha hain, 20-30 rupay mein,” he added. Sufi Motiwala believes that Surat has not even attempted to recreate the original dish. Instead, “Unhone decide kiya ki ek teekha soup banayege, hum usmein noodle dalenge, chicken dalenge, paapdi dalenge or bas khilayege logo ko,” he said. In Surat, where he has been eating for decades, the vendors have become millionaires just by selling Khau Suey, chai, and other chaats.

He Never Gets Intimidated Before Criticising Celeb Outfits
Sufi Motiwala never spares anyone, not even beauty pageant winners like Aishwarya Rai or Urvashi Rautela. We asked him if any celebrity’s PR team had ever called him about his negative comments on the celeb’s outfits. He replied, “Ye celebrity roz har baar din mein 10 kapde badalte hain, unmein se mujhe koi nahi pasand aajata toh it’s not that serious.” He doesn’t see celebrities as stars; in his eyes, they’re just regular people doing their job, and he expects them to do it well. Sufi never feels scared or intimidated before sharing his opinions publicly.
