Ahead Of Peak Travel Season, Delhi Airport Shifts Some IndiGo & SpiceJet Flights From T2 To T1

Ahead of Delhi’s busiest winter travel season, Delhi International Airport Ltd. (DIAL) is shifting a few flights from Terminal 2 to Terminal 1. Since partially resuming operations, T1 has seen 43 domestic flights per day, including 32 IndiGo and 11 SpiceJet flights. This action is crucial for efficient airline operations because the winter travel season brings an excessive number of passengers. Read on to know why some IndiGo flights got shifted to Delhi Airport’s Terminal 1.

Why Delhi Airport Shifted IndiGo & SpiceJet Flights From Terminal 2 To Terminal 1?

Taking to the social media platform X, IndiGo tweeted that certain flights have been redirected from Terminal 2 to Terminal 1. Additionally, the airline stated it has shared this information with its passengers. Their website has the most recent information about the change in the terminal.

According to IndiGo, this decision is a part of the airline’s continuous efforts to enhance the traveller experience.

The busiest airport in the nation is in Delhi. This is the second winter of dissatisfaction for both passengers and airlines. There were problems with fog landings during the winter of last year. This year, though, the problem is with terminal-side capacity constraints as Delhi Airport’s Terminal 1 collapsed in June. That’s because the extended T1 is still not completely operational, and T3 is overcrowded, with T3 managing extra flights and T2 handling more.

One man was killed and eight people were injured after a portion of the roof of the airport in New Delhi fell as a result of intense rain. All departures from Terminal 1 were briefly suspended due to the incident, which happened at approximately 5 AM on June 28.

Although T1 was shut down in June, a tiny, unaffected section was made available for use in the middle of August. Only a small portion of the terminal is currently operational. Larsen & Toubro has provided the airport operator with a repair-strengthening plan, and the government has asked DIAL to fix T1, as reported by The Times of India.
