Air India Refunds ₹44,000 For Bengaluru-London Flight Cancellation During COVID-19 Lockdown

Air India has been directed to refund a flight ticket of a man who had a flight scheduled from Bengaluru to London. It was due to the pandemic in the year 2020 that the flight was cancelled. Following the incident, Air India offered another flight ticket to the man to fly to London. Air India declared the customer as a ‘no show.’ After the customer filed a complaint with the Second Additional District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission in Bengaluru, the officials asked Air India to refund the money.

Air India To Refund ₹44,000 For Bengaluru-London Flight

The refund amounts to ₹44,000 as the airline had charged it from the customer as a cancellation fee. Air India also refunded the ₹1,35,143 ticket but charged another ₹5,000 as an ‘incidental charge’. After taking note of the incidents and the events in 2020, the Commission asked the airline company to refund both amounts. The customer, Milin Jadishbhai Parekh, booked flight tickets from Bengaluru to London in January 2020. However, he didn’t get the chance to fly down to London as all the international flights were cancelled due to the COVID-19 lockdown worldwide.

Customer Gets Refund After Two Years

The customer, Parekh had filed the complaint back in 2020, and after two long years, he is receiving justice over the matter. As per reports, none from airline company had represented themselves for the addressal of the complaint. Parekh also reached out to the Make My Trip portal to report the complaint but received no respite from them. In September, the airline company had made it a top priority for themselves to make all the refunds for the pending customers. Other airlines reported the issue, and couldn’t refund the various amounts to the passengers who had their flights cancelled. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the aviation industry was reeling under immense pressure due to the lockdown and closing of travel.
