Around 8:26 pm, Flight AI114 took off from Birmingham with passengers. But halfway into the trip, a bomb threat came in and safety became the top priority for the airline’s crew.

Without any further delay, the pilots decided to divert the plane to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Thankfully, the aircraft touched down safely in the Saudi capital, with zero casualties reported.

Saudi authorities approached the members on the Air India flight immediately once the plane landed. Security teams were quickly deployed to inspect the aircraft and ensure everything was safe and working.

Tighter Safety Checks Already In Place

This incident comes shortly after Air India rolled out tougher safety measures across its operations. These steps followed a tragic accident involving another Air India flight in Ahmedabad earlier this month.

The airline, now under the Tata Group, has reduced some daily flights to focus entirely on safety and technical checks. Air India teams have also stepped up their safety checks before every flight to keep risks at bay.

At the same time, airline officials have admitted they’re facing a few headaches. With restricted airspace in parts of the Middle East, curfews at airports across Europe and Asia, and packed skies, flight delays and cancellations have become more common than anyone would like.
