Starting the no-honking movement in India, Aizawl in Mizoram is an example for other cities in the country. The city, which ranks among India’s quietest, has strict ordinances in place to prevent unnecessary honking. To lessen noise pollution, and create a peaceful environment in the city, the Aizawl Traffic Police and the local administration started the no-honking campaign in Aizawl.

All over Aizawl, there are numerous billboards and banners urging residents and visitors to refrain from pointless honking. The traffic police, who strictly enforce the laws, may issue fines to offenders for excessive honking, peace disturbance, and noise pollution.
