Liquor prices in Delhi are expected to increase ahead of the festive season in 2026 as the excise duty on alcohol bottles will increase. The plan is being finalised under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s government for various reasons. Here’s what it means and what you need to know.
Liquor Cost To Increase In Delhi
Booze is all set to get expensive in Delhi, and for people who can’t get through the festive days without alcohol, this can be a major update. According to Hindustan Times, the Delhi government is planning to raise excise duty and retail margin to boost revenue under the new excise policy, which is ready and is expected to be notified in October.
Reportedly, the draft of the policy will be sent to the Delhi Cabinet and Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh for approval after a new Excise Commissioner is appointed. People should know that this new rule is expected to bring a major change to the way liquor is sold in the market. The cost will definitely increase for buyers.

New Policy May Change Retail Margins
According to Moneycontrol, one of the key proposals in the new policy talks about revising the fixed retail margin available to liquor retailers. At present, the margin is capped at ₹50 per bottle for Indian Made Foreign Liquor and ₹100 per bottle for Foreign Liquor.
This fixed margin system has made it difficult for government-run shops to stock expensive imported brands because retailers have little incentive to sell premium products. This rule is expected to lead to more premium liquor stores in Delhi.
Customers often travel to Gurgaon and Faridabad to buy premium imported booze because of availability and cost, and that might change soon. But yes, the higher excise duty could increase the base price of alcohol in the capital, making the bottles expensive.
