All You Need To Know About The Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway

The 4 hour drive from Delhi to Amritsar and 6 hour drive from Delhi to Katra is made possible by the 670 km long Delhi-Katra Expressway. Now you don’t have to take a strenuous journey to reach Katra. Delhi-Katra Expressway

Delhi Amritsar Katra Expressway is one of the ten expressway to be built under the “Bharatmala Pariyojana”. This 670 km long expressway runs across the states of Delhi, Punjab, Jammu, Kashmir, and Haryana. The expressway is a combination of greenfield and brownfield. It is a controlled-access expressway that is now four lanes wide but has the potential to become an eight-lane expressway in the future.

This expressway connects some major religious sites from Delhi to Vaishno Devi through Katra and the Golden Temple in Amritsar. It is said that the expressway would ease the congestion associated with religious travel. The expressway will also connect Tarn Taran, Dera Baba Nanak, Goindwal Sahib, and Khadoor Sahib, all are important Sikh sites.

Reduced Travel Time

The current distance between Delhi and Katra is about 750 km. The proposed expressway will aim to reduce the travel time to 572 km. This expressway will make travel easier and cut the distance between the national capital and the holy city of Katra in half. The travel time will come down to 6 hours from 14 hours. Even, the distance from Delhi to Amritsar will be reduced to 405 km and the travel time will be reduced from 8 hours to 4 hours.

The Delhi Katra Expressway will likely be finished in 2023 with Rs. 47,000 crores being the approximate total cost of the project.
