In a recent development, at least 10 Amarnath Yatra pilgrims were injured on Sunday in a road accident. Reportedly, 3 ferrying vehicles collided near the Khudwani crossing in Kulgam, along the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway. Read on to know more.
At Least 10 Amarnath Pilgrims Injured In Accident Near Kulgam
The annual Amarnath Yatra, which is currently underway, began on July 3 and will continue till August 9. The pilgrimage was going smoothly for devotees until a road accident on Sunday left at least 10 people injured. As per India TV News, several pilgrims sustained injuries when 3 buses ferrying yatris collided near the Tachloo crossing in Khudwani, Kulgam. The buses were heading to Baltal along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway when the accident occurred. A user on X, @nidhisj2001, also shared the images of the wrecked bus on their account.
The injured were given immediate medical assistance. First aid was provided at a nearby facility, and later, they were shifted to the Government Medical College (GMC) in Anantnag for further treatment. Medical officials confirmed all of them sustained minor injuries and are in a stable condition.

Yatra Resumes With More Safety In Place
While the accident caused a temporary disruption to the pilgrimage to the holy Amarnath cave, the Yatra resumed shortly after with more safety measures in place. As per India TV News, authorities have urged all drivers to maintain safe distances and strictly follow all transport protocols to prevent further accidents along the route.
Moreover, the local administration and traffic police are also monitoring the situation closely and investigating the cause of the collision. Efforts are being made to ensure smooth and safe movement for all convoys along the highway.
The Amarnath cave shrine, located in South Kashmir’s Himalayas, holds religious importance for lakhs of devotees across India. Over 7,000 pilgrims departed from Jammu in the first batch alone this year, including 1,423 women, 31 children, and 136 sadhus and sadhvis. The pilgrims began their journey in the early hours under heavy security and moved in separate convoys towards the 2 base camps-Nunwan in Anantnag district’s Pahalgam and Baltal in Ganderbal district, as per the report.
