After all, what did you even do, if not the craziest of things during your India visit right? Well, this time the bizarre news comes from New Delhi. On Sunday, the Police arrested a 27-year-old American tourist for allegedly staging her own kidnapping. The woman ran out of cash which led to her faking the abduction to blackmail her parents into sending money. American Tourist Identified As Chloe Mclaughlin Lies to Her Mom About Being Assaulted In Delhi

The American tourist, identified as Chloe Mclaughlin, is a university graduate in the U.S. The police revealed that she is the daughter of an ex-army officer who currently stays in Washington DC. “On July 7, Mclaughlin called her mother and said that she was in an unsafe environment and was being assaulted and beaten by a man known to her,” New Delhi Police officials revealed in an NDTV report. The tourist however did not disclose her location. The mother of the American tourist later approached the authorities in India, and the US Embassy forwarded the matter to New Delhi District police.
“The United States Embassy conjectured that the American woman was either incapacitated or was being prevented from contacting her family or Embassy,” said Amrutha Guguloth, Deputy Commissioner of Police, New Delhi.

Police Traced The IP Addresses From The Woman’s Email Sent To American Citizen Services

According to an Indian Express report, the Police traced the IP addresses from which the American tourist had sent an email to American Citizen services and made a video call to her mother. Once traced, the police led to a 31-year-old man from Nigeria. Upon arrest, the man revealed that the American woman was staying in an apartment in Noida, on the outskirts of Delhi. “After her rescue, it was revealed that she had staged the incident to blackmail her parents,” New Delhi’s deputy commissioner of police, Amrutha Guguloth, told the Indian Express.
