An EGYPTAIR Flight To New York Diverted To Dublin Due To Cracked Windshield

While travelling in an aircraft, one of the biggest things that people wish for is a safe flight. A flight that is smooth and reaches the destination on time without any complications. However, people on a recent EGYPTAIR flight, which was flying to New York were in for quite a scary experience. This flight had to be diverted to Dublin as a windshield had cracked!

EGYPTAIR Flight Makes Emergency Landing In Dublin

According to a report by Simple Flying, it was reported that an Irish emergency service went on high alert on Saturday, January 20 when an EGYPTAIR flight that was travelling to New York had to be turned over the Atlantic. Yes, this flight had to be diverted to Dublin as a windshield had cracked! The Boeing 787-19 Dreamliner with the registration SU-GEW declared this emergency and the plane, however, later landed in the city without any incident. The May Day was declared by the crew and a full emergency response was activated as a result.

It should however be noted that passengers will now be heading to New York on a replacement flight. The flight number MS987 had departed from Cairo International Airport at 4:07 on Saturday, January 20. This aircraft was scheduled to land at New York Newark Liberty International, however, around 7 hours and 30 minutes into the flight, the flight had to be turned around. Yes, the report mentioned that flightradar24 showed the flight turning around during the early stages of Atlantic Crossing. After this, it made a landing in Dublin.

A Substitute Dreamliner Would Be Carrying The Passengers To New York

A substitute 787 Dreamliner has been tasked with continuing the flight to New York and it’s scheduled to depart from Dublin on Sunday morning. The EGYPTAIR flight was cleared to land at the Shannon Airport (SNN), which is often used as a diversion airport. With 287 passengers and crew members on board, the May Day calls were taken quite seriously and the airport was placed on high alert. The EGYPTAIR aircraft landed at Dublin at 11:10, the passengers and the crew were safe.
