Fancy an Italian getaway on the pristine Amalfi coast? Well, your vacation is about to be a whole lot easier! The Salerno-Costa d’Amalfi Airport which is located close to the Amalfi Coast will open in July this year. Previously, those who wanted to visit the Amalfi coast would have had to fly to Naples. From June onwards, however, you can skip this longer route and reach this picturesque destination faster than ever!

New Amalfi Coast Airport To Open In July This Year

The airport was built almost 100 years ago, the airport was not open for public usage. According to an article which was recently published by Travel Tomorrow, the airport began gearing up for commercial flights in 2007 but it wasn’t until 2016 that it was closed for renovation.

Now, it is all set to open in July and will be open to commercial flights. The airport has an extended runway which stretches across 2,000 metres. The passenger terminal is also under construction and should be ready soon.

If reports are to go by, the development of the airport will continue even after it is opened in July. Reports say that it will go on till 2043. Right now, the passenger capacity is 400,000 per year. Once it is fully developed, it can reach six million passengers a year.

The Airlines Which Will Provide Connectivity To The Airport

The Spanish airline Volotea is all set to introduce routes from Salerno-Costa d’Amalfi Airport to Nantes and Cagliari. These two routes will be introduced in July. In September, it will introduce two new routes – one to Catania and the other to Verona.

In addition to Volotea, Ryanair and easyJet are also considering introducing routes to the airport. Once the airport is unveiled, this sunny sought-after destination will become easier to access.
