We have often heard our parents reminisce about how much cheaper things were back in their childhood or when they were younger. This time, it is the renowned business tycoon Anand Mahindra who is doing the reminiscing. He posted a newspaper clipping of an article written way back in 1972 and was taken aback by how much an Ambassador car cost. His post has evoked numerous responses from people who are all aghast at the price.
Anand Mahindra Shocked By An Old Newspaper Clipping
Anand Mahindra, the renowned business tycoon posted a newspaper cutout on the popular micro-blogging website Twitter. The newspaper clipping was from the year 1972 and it announced a price hike for a couple of cars.
Mahindra was aghast at the price of the cars. The article mentioned that after the price hike, an Ambassador would cost ₹16,946 and a Fiat 1100-D would cost ₹15,946. He captioned the picture saying “This has plunged me into some ‘Sunday reminiscing.’” He said that at the time this newspaper clipping was published, he was in Sir JJ College.
He also mentioned that his mother would occasionally allow him to occasionally drive her blue Fiat. “Even I can hardly believe this is what it cost at the time!” he wrote.

It seems that this tweet of his struck a chord with a number of people on Twitter and got a lot of responses. As of now, the tweet has around 3.2k likes and over 360k views. Many have responded by also reminiscing about prices when they were younger.
One response to the tweet wrote that all they could see was how the value of the Rupee has fallen since 1972. They said that as of now, all you can purchase with ₹15,000 are two car tyres and nothing more. However, had you purchased gold worth the same amount at the time, you’d still be able to afford a car today by selling that gold.
