Anji-Khad bridge

The breathtaking bridge in Jammu and Kashmir, the structure of the Anji-Khad Bridge is finally complete. Track-laying work is also to commence soon. It connects the Katra region to the Reasi region of the union territory. It is an asymmetrical bridge and is a part of the Udhampur-Baramulla rail link. Here are all the details that you should know about this particular bridge that will surely add to the charm and allure of Jammu and Kashmir.

Anji-Khad Bridge Structure Is Now Complete

According to an article recently published by The Times Of India or the TOI, the structure of the bridge is complete. A source cited in the article stated that as of now, the lifting off of the stay cables with multi-jacks is in progress. This is being done in order to check the force in the cables. It is the first cable-stayed bridge in the Indian Railways.

The Minister of Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw, recently took to X (formerly known as Twitter) and shared a video of this marvellous bridge. In the post, he wrote that the height of the bridge is a total of 193 metres, which is how tall the main pylon of the bridge is. The Anji Khad Bridge is perched at a height of 331 metres and offers a breathtaking view of the Anji River.

After the currently ongoing work of cable force is done, the data, along with the geometric profile, will be submitted to the designer for review. Given the tricky terrain, the construction of the bridge was quite a challenge. However, it is finally nearing completion. Once done, it will serve as an important beacon of India’s architectural proficiency.

Track Laying To Begin Soon At This Beautiful Bridge

The TOI article also stated that the work to lay tracks on the bridge will commence soon now that the structure is fully completed. This will also include the construction of ballast-retaining walls. As per reports, the track-laying work will be completed by the end of the year. Once finished, the bridge will be a part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link or the USBRL.

The USBRL is quite important, strategically speaking. It will serve as a crucial railway link between the rest of the country and Jammu and Kashmir. The bridge stretches across 725 metres, which is its total length. The length of the ancillary viaduct is 120 metres and the main bridge is 473.25 metres. The bridge is supported by a total of 96 cables.

Because of the unique topographical and geographical features around the bridge, sensors will be installed in the structure to continuously monitor its structural health.
