The veteran actor, Anupam Kher, joined our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani, for this episode of Sunday Brunch for the second time on Curly Tales. We had the privilege to take a tour of Anupam Kher’s acting school in Juhu, Mumbai, and learn about his acting journey in Bollywood. Over a Pan-Asian feast at Shifuku By Curly Tales, we conversed about retirement in India and staying fit at the young age of 69!
Anupam Kher Believes Working Makes One Fit; Talks About Retirement
Anupam Kher talked about how a good mind and body aid in continuing work. With a fit body and a peaceful mind, he has continued working in the industry even at the age of 69! The actor believes that no one, excluding people who have chronic diseases, falls sick due to work. It is rather those negative thoughts that eat the brain.
“If you keep working, you keep yourself fit. If you are fit, you are mentally fit. You are thinking, you are going somewhere to look forward to,” said the actor. This is when Kamiya highlighted how Japan’s government doesn’t restrict its residents. The Asian country doesn’t have a retirement age at all. Senior citizens work according to their comfort even after the age of 60 or 65!
Anupam narrated one of his dialogues from his recent film, ‘Vijay 69’, “Sapno ki koi expire date nahi hoti hai.” The actor firmly agrees with this thought and is grateful to be in an occupation where there is no retirement. Bollywood has talented gems who strive to work hard and entertain their fans even after the ideal age of retirement i.e. 60.

He Blames Indian Kids For This
Anupam Kher emphasised how Indians follow the retirement rule and how kids play a major role in restricting their parents regarding work. The 69-year-old actor said, “Our kids make us feel old and say that you are of age now.”
He thinks this belief is utter rubbish and understands that kids are concerned for their parents after a certain age. However, he also stated that if someone is living their life a little too cautiously, then they lose confidence, stop moving and slowly fall prey to diseases. This is what he is completely against.
